Dawn is an Editor at Imagination who works on a variety of projects in the digital, broadcast and social media industries.

Before arriving at Imagination, Dawn covered the Midwest for TIME and Time.com including both trials of former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, which earned her a Peter Lisagor Award for “Best Breaking News Story” in 2010. Her award-winning work as a journalist has appeared in more than 30 media outlets including: Travel + Leisure, American Way, Chicago Tribune, Chicago magazine, CNN.com, MSN.com, Forbes.com, USA Today, AAA Living, Time Out Chicago and Life & Style. She served as the president of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Chicago Headline Club and worked as a staff sports reporter for the Dallas Morning News and St. Petersburg Times.

While on assignment, Dawn has eaten crickets in Cambodia, gone dog sledding in Alaska and interviewed the likes of Maya Angelou and Justin Bieber. She is an adjunct magazine professor at DePaul University and co-authored the book Armchair Reader: Chicago, about quirky, off-beat people, places and things in the Windy City. On a special reporting project for The Sporting News, she spent four months in a car, with two guys she didn’t know, driving to every NFL city in the country, covering games, the NFL cities, life on the road and Super Bowl XXXV. Dawn earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s Ernie Pyle School of Journalism, despite getting up at 4 a.m. six days a week to compete as a NCAA varsity rower and taking Bobby Knight’s last basketball coaching class at IU.

She loves all things Chicago, including triathlons, painting by Montrose Harbor and salsa dancing.

As the Chief Content Officer for Imagination, Karen develops integrated content strategies to tell our clients’ stories and build brand awareness, increase audience engagement, and achieve positive results.

Karen is a native Chicagoan with a major itch for international travel. After growing up on the South Side, she eventually moved further south to complete her BA at Washington University in St. Louis. Following graduation, she jumped across the pond to live and work in south London for a few years.

Once she returned to Chicago, Karen started her career in publishing at the Chicago Tribune as a police reporter-turned-nightlife editor-turned-event marketer. Her interest in marketing eventually led her back to school to complete her MBA at Loyola University Chicago, where she took advantage of study abroad opportunities in China and Southeast Asia, and addressed her business school classmates as student commencement speaker. During that time, Karen also led digital consumer strategy and marketing for RedEye through the launch of the brand’s mobile app and revamped website.

Karen is not only enthusiastic about helping clients tell their stories, but she’s also passionate about telling her own stories about pizza, pilates, dessert platters (which have been known to elicit an involuntarily clapping response), music, TV (Mad Men, Lost, Happy Endings, and So You Think You Can Dance), and the occasional Kangoo workout.

Share your stories with Karen on LinkedIn and Twitter.

Carly arrived at Imagination in February 2012 as Editor. She is responsible for developing dynamic content for print and social media, bringing over eight years of food writing and editorial expertise.
Through a series of happy coincidences, she was lucky enough to turn her passion for food and creative writing into a full-time career. Carly arrived at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with intentions of becoming a food photographer, leaving with a degree in Journalism and local food column. Before coming to Imagination, Carly was known for praising local eats for publications like The Feast, Food & Wine, Saveur, MSNBC, The Atlantic, and has been a guest commentator on WBEZ and NBC Chicago.

After hours, Carly can be found refining her home brewing skills, baking delicious fattening things, biking around town, and watching Law and Order (not necessarily in that order).
