Change We Can Believe In

by Joel Witmer

You know what sucks? Drifting off while watching a television show only to be jostled awake by a loud commercial. Right now ads cannot be louder than the loudest moment in a show, which is why many ads are as loud as that explosion during LOST (because god forbid a commercial run at non-peak volume).

Well, in the interest of doing something of some value to the average American — apparently as part of a systematic push to be useful for once — the FCC is considering legislation that would limit the volume of commercials to the average decibel level of the TV they interrupt. Now that’s good news.
