My Imagination Internship

by admin

As an editorial intern at Imagination, my skills are put to the test each and every day with a wide variety of writing assignments. Whether it’s writing stories for nationally published material for some of our clients or simple blog posts or tweets, each time I walk through the doors of this place, there’s something new and different on my plate.

My Internship Experience

You all know the theory that interns at some companies don’t truly get a ‘hands-on’ or a resume building experience, right? That couldn’t be farther from the truth at Imagination. My experiences have already led me to include Imagination on my resume as well as have the ability to show future employers the work I was doing here through my clips.

I have a friend who interned over the summer for a newspaper publication. He had one piece of work to show for it at the end of the program. I had one piece of work to show within the first two weeks of my internship at Imagination. Although I’m a journalism person at heart, my writing here has not only helped Imagination, but it furthered the knowledge I need to succeed in any writing industry.

The Imagination Difference

It truly is a great place to work and if you are even remotely thinking of entering in the field of custom media publishing, give Imagination a chance. I’m extremely thankful for the experience I’ve gotten here thus far and only look forward to the new projects that are in store for me.

To get a better idea of how the internship is from someone besides me, watch our video on the program. We, as interns, put it together to give all those interested a better idea of what work we actually do here and what kind of place Imagination is. After watching, feel free to apply, you may find it as rewarding as I did…

Custom Media Works for Financial Services

by Michelle O'Hagan

Need practical advice about running a small business? “Business Insight Series” is an extensive video library Imagination created for Wells Fargo Small Business. It’s yet another example of a financial services company using custom media to reach its target audience.

The Business Insight Series contains more than 60 videos providing advice and expertise to Wells Fargo small business customers. Some of the videos are one-on-one episodes with an interviewer and a small business expert; others are case studies/profiles of Wells Fargo customers who share their success stories. The library also includes short clips from the longer 40-minute webcasts Imagination produces for Wells Fargo.

The “Business Insight Series” video library is a unique offering Wells Fargo provides to customers — a valuable resource for small business owners.

Online Intellect

by Riley Bandy

I was recently discussing the How Do You Connect blog with a coworker. We were sharing criticisms of each other’s posts, less about topics and content, but more on general formatting and structure. The conversation reached the conclusion that since so many different people contribute to this blog, it might be helpful to create a structure and formatting guide so that all the posts are similar and fit a certain, agreed upon, model.

Although I agreed with the idea at the time, I recently watched this presentation about the future of social media, which presents an alternative view.  It presents the notion that the power and intelligence of the Internet comes from the collection of alternative and differing views. The contributions of so many different minds and so many different styles gives the Internet it’s vast array of knowledge and insights in many topics. But the downfall and weakness of this massive giant is the forecast that those who spend lots of time on the Internet who begin to recognize and follow the trends of linking to other content or formatting in ways that other bloggers are formatting, are actually becoming more similar to other users rather than remaining different. It suggests that over time more and more users will fall into these trends and remove the vast differences that make the Internet strong in its diversity.

Back to my original topic, while a consistent format may bring ease to readers of this blog, it does not harbor the acceptance of difference or allow for individual creative expression for which blogs are intended. Check out the video:

Turning Point for Social Media

How Not To Build Brand Loyalty

by Joel Witmer

Keystream is launching SmartAd today, a SaaS platform that enables advertisers to insert graphic overlays into the empty spaces in videos. Think of it as a more intrusive version of the network logos stamped on the screen of every show.

Yeah, this is a winning idea.

Viral Defined

by Michelle O'Hagan

I just came across this video. Titled “Please Don’t Vote – Tell 5 Friends,” its content is clever, funny, urgent and–best of all–relevant. It also contains no fewer than three calls to action.

It is the definition of viral marketing.

Online Community is more than a comment field

by Riley Bandy

When discussing online community and how to create a motivating site that will inspire users to interact and communicate with one another, so often people think that simply adding a comment field at the end of an article is the answer. For some, an opportunity to publish thoughts IS the answer to making a stake on a high traffic site in the case of amazon book reviews or gizmodo surveys, but is that really community?

In this video, the editor of National Geographic magazine discusses how the magazine defines itself through highly visual material and utilizes the web to include customers in their visual quest of knowledge through a visual community of uploading photos and incorporating user’s opinions in the form of a reader’s pole of favorite images. They have had great success and even publish the user generated images in an annual photo issue, to further tie their online content to their publication.

So next time you want to create community for your customers by adding a comment field, ask yourself, is that how my customers communicate?
