Borders
Posted by Bud Caddell on June 20, 2008
This is a short post, but I hope it can spark some conversations…
The issue of net neutrality has certainly set some people’s blood a’boil. The idea of limiting the speed of the internet for some users and offering an artificial ‘premium’ access level goes against everything this revolution stands for, including the democratization of access to information.
So why aren’t we up in arms about the artificial borders we place on content? Why is it that International users suffer because of the borders we create for some types of content? Is it legal reasons? Commercial concerns? (why give International users access to U.S. TV shows they can’t watch live anyway? — ever hear of immigration? DVD purchases? iTunes?)
Please tell me, because this seems like a grave mistake of our amazing internet age.
