Our Fear Realized....and Dispelled
Posted by Laura Chavoen on April 02, 2008
One of the questions that was asked of me as we began to show the world how we work, what our process is, what we do, was WHY. We’ve already covered that in other posts, so I won’t go into detail.
A second question that was asked of me was WHO. Jane, our talented Broadcast Director, heard back from her Dad that “the only people who would be interested would be your competition.” (I’m paraphrasing, sorry, Dad, if I didn’t quote you exactly!) Dad’s not the only person we heard this from, either.
The point is fair, and was certainly a fear. We decided to proceed as planned for many reasons, but mainly because the talent here at Imagination is stellar, and a process without talent creating the output is just a piece of random information.
And then I got an email from Ian Alexander. Ian is the Vice President, Content Management at EAT MEDIA. The competition.

And then I read Ian’s email. And printed it out and passed it around. (Yes, I printed it. I knew everyone I wanted to read it would if I handed it to them.)
Ian has graciously allowed me to quote him here…and I’d just like to reiterate my email response to him in this forum as well…Thank you, Ian.
Ian writes:
“Exposing the creative process down to the studs and floorboards like this is powerful on many levels.
- It lets us (other creative firms) realize that the creative process is not always easy when your goal is conveying a message that is well designed, full of great content and not preaching to the choir.
- It highlights the power of “No”.
- It also brings to the forefront the fact that great content lacking great design is mute.”
And now we come full circle to the title of this post.
As always, I look forward to hearing from you.

Thoughtful commentary from Ian, as always. This project is already exceeding my expectations–there are actual conversations happening! Some inside our walls, some obviously outside. I think what we're showing is our care and our critical thinking that we bring to all of our projects. It's our craft, and we're passionate about it.
